AUDITION CALL for 《Lot 60/5》

The Golden Stage Theater (GST) will be holding auditions for its first Cantonese play, Lot 60/5, which will be staged in January 2009, in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration.

We are looking for both male and female actors, aged between 17 to 50 years to fit the following principle and supporting roles: teacher, country mouse, playboy, maid, white colar, VCD seller, tailor, college dude, hawker, nightclub singer, loanshark, clerk.

Venue: 26-3, Jalan PJU 5/17, Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara, 47810 P.J.
Dates & Time: 26-27 July 2008, 10.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m.
Requirements: You are required to act and speak Cantonese fluently, but the ability to sing and dance will be a plus point. Non-Cantonese speakers are also encouraged to apply.

Lot 60/5 Synopsis

‘Fatty, close the tap!’ Peek into the lives of everyday people in , a comedy that’ll make you laugh and cry with its ironical look on life. As the play opens and progresses with a look at the day in the lives of the neurotic characters, come a threat to Yang and his tenants – a buyer for the shop lot. The play climaxes with the question: will Yang succumb and sell his lot, or will the eccentricity of the bunch come up with an alternative?

Yang plays the landlord who inherited a three-storey shop lot from his late parents and he rents out all the rooms to ten tenants with different characters and backgrounds, i.e. a serious teacher, a romantic playboy, a timid clerk, a mischief nightclub dancer, a straight-acting VCD seller, a sissy tailor, an honest hawker, a soft-hearted loan-shark, a fashionable college student, and a country mouse from China. The story started when an international developer company wanted to buy over the shop lot with a very high price…..the ending is unpredictable.

The comedy is told thorough fast-paced dialogue that will engage the audience with its humour and unpredictability. The play also endeavours to promote the spirit of neighbourhood which is fast depleting in our modern society.
